Following their first collab “Sandlot Kid,” the duo returns with a 4-track EP highlighting Wig’s sharp pen and Chord’s masterful ear for sound.
OUTBREAK! drops everywhere April 26th.
Chordandjocks Wig and I connected on Instagram, and it eventually led to him hooking me up with a few shows in Cape Girardeau, MO at Spectrum Record Lounge, and then vice versa with a show in Little Rock at the White Water Tavern. In between, we worked on a single titled “Sandlot Kid” from a beat I had made months prior.
As soon as I listened to the mix he sent me back for Sandlot Kid, I knew Wig was a mad dope MC. He’s quick, and has mastered his style of rap. With how well that process flowed, I knew we’d have to get a project going at some point.
He then hit me up last year about putting out an EP with Sunday Dinner Records… and we got to work. These beats were made in my studio, with each selected by us as a track that can stand out on its own pretty strong in my opinion. I used Serato Studio, the SP404 MK2, and records from my collection, with a focus of crafting melodic beats that knock, but still leave Wig with plenty of room to work with. It was dope working with Wig to see how he really crafts a world with every track he raps on. You’ll see this with the tape.
This won’t be the last for sure, and I’m excited to put this out for the world to bump.
Wigflippa I first got hip to Chordandjocks listening the group Cold Cuts Collective. I think it was through lotek(Thxk_u) or Devin Burgess originally. I later learned he was from Little Rock, just a few hours south of my hometown. Not very long after, I put together my first show at Spectrum Record Lounge and I asked him to come perform alongside myself, ynglnk, and Jay Hill. The show went great and we planned to work together in the future.
Chordandjocks was set to perform during the “Cold Summer” month long event I organized in 2024, but had to back out. In April 2025, Chordandjocks finally made it back to Spectrum to perform again. Before the show we cooked up a track in a haunted mansion alongside the homie EZweb (S/O The American Ghost Project for the space). That night, the jazz quartet, “Let’s Be Clear” opened for Chordandjocks, and also gave us an incredible memory by improvising over his beats. We also performed our track “Sandlot Kid” together for the first time. After the show, Chordandjocks mentioned that he wanted to try to get me on an upcoming event in Little Rock.
The show turned out to be The Undugu Festival on a lineup of killer Little Rock & Memphis emcees & producers with Supernatural as the headliner. I traveled to LR with EZweb and when we got into town we caught the daytime sets at Rose Garden Market & Co. then went to the record store Chordandjocks worked at to chop it up before our show at White Water Tavern.
That night changed a lot for me as an emcee. I got to meet Supernatural and have a conversation with him after my set. He performed not too long after and put on a show that I’ll never forget. I’d never seen someone control a room the way he did.
After the show, Chordandjocks, EZweb, and myself went to get tacos and reflect on the night. Months later, Domo Supreme approached me about making a tape for the label alongside Chordandjocks. I reached out to C&J to see if he was interested and he said he was down.
This tape ended up coming together pretty quickly, but I sat on the beats for a couple of months before making much progress. Chordandjocks and Domo both trusted my process though and never lost faith in me which I’m thankful for. The hook on “Limerence” was the first words I wrote for this EP. At the time, it was just a poem and I wasn’t sure how it would fit in, but I knew it was good material. The first completed track I wrote was “Dead Mics”. That track is heavily inspired by the Undugu Festival in Little Rock and Supernatural’s performance. The second song I finished is “Ashes to Ashes”. A lot of my material has been heavy and personal so I wanted to get a little looser on this track. I leaned into my love of rhyme schemes on there. The third track to come together was “Limerence”. I originally recorded this song without any background vocals and I kind of hated it. But one day something clicked and I added the layers to give it some more color and catchiness. It’s one of my favorites now. A The last song and quickest song I wrote was “Propaganda (SAY CHEESE)”. When we started working on the tape, I asked Chordandjocks what he wanted to hear me rap about. He responded that I should speak on the state of the current world. I penned this track in one night and recorded it the next day. Pax was already mixing down the records and we replaced a song with this joint.
Outbreak! is a return to form for me. I focused on the things that made me fall in love with hip hop: Storytelling, political commentary, bars, and self reflection. These songs drew so much inspiration from opportunities that Chordandjocks and I have provided for each other. Outbreak! is a prime representation of where my sound and writing is at as well as where it is headed
