The Cookbook [Key Ingredients Vol. 013] - dawgz.

Happy Monday and welcome to another key ingredients!

consistency is key in the world of the indie/underground scene, producer dawgz. (Maryland) has made a name for himself in the beat community with his signature sound and consistent release of quality music. Dawgz. has around 39 releases on bandcamp, and has no plans on stopping. the Maryland producer steps in the kitchen to give the reader his key ingredients when he’s creating music. Peep below! make sure to check out his latest release “golden.covers” on bandcamp!

  1. phone - Like everyone else, I’m always on my phone. I’m either on social media, Youtube or Koala. I wanna say this is probably the most important ingredient to me. Whenever I’m not home, Youtube and Koala definitely allow me to still push ideas out regardless of limitations.

  2. imagination - I watch a lot of TV and a lot movies, so it’s easy for me to picture certain scenes in my head while I’m making music. I think about random stuff. If it’s not love scenes, it’s wrestling. I can make a beat right now thinking about Shawn Micheals giving someone a chair-shot to the face.

  3. laptop - Along with digging for samples from my phone, I also do it from my laptop. Pretty simple.

  4. maschine - I started off making beats in high school in a Music Tech class. However, I wanted to make more beats in my spare time instead of just relying on time in class to do it. So, my father got me the software, Maschine. I’ve been on and off with it for about 7 years. I actually got back to it recently. The more I experiment with it, the more I like it.

  5. sp404/mk2 - How could I name my 5 key ingredients without mentioning these two? Just like Koala, the SP allows me to push ideas out as well but a bit more quickly. I’ve been making crazy beats and classic tapes with this instrument alone regardless of the limitations on it. Shoutout to all my SP users and shoutout to Roland.
