The Cookbook [Key Ingredients Vol. 014] - eno-obong

Happy holidays and welcome to another key ingredients!

we have our guy enO-obong in the kitchen, bringing us his top five ingredients. eno-bong is a Texas based producer, photographer, artist, dj… the homie does it all! check it out below and make sure to listen to his latest collaboration with producer indescribableINDY titled common distance on Onda Tapes!

  1. ableton - “my workspace, my playground, my canvas. i know everyone uses something different but ableton has the most freedom out of any DAW. i’ve yet to find something i can’t do on there”.

  2. sp303 - “everyone has the 404 or 404mk2 but i’m still old school with the 303. i think of gear as something you pass down, almost sacred really. nothing can compare to the sound of my own 303. i hope every producer feels that connection with his/her gear”.

  3. compression - “i swear this is the demarcation of a producer. a “next step” if you will. i was making beat after beat not understanding the power of compression. for anyone out there wondering why their music doesn’t sound the same i’ll save you the struggle i went through. find out how to create compression. however you do it is acceptable but definitely do it”.

  4. disconnecting - “yes, walking away is an ingredient and one of the hardest on the pallet. but nothing is better than a reset and refresh. sometimes it’s just not your night champ and you didn’t like what you exported. that’s okay, let that idea sit, and sit, and sit, until it comes around. don’t get me wrong, create something “new” everyday, but if your creation is one kick or one line on a canvas, accept it. and understand that this dish just takes longer to make”.

  5. family and friends - “other people are what make you, you. other people instill and inspire. i know it’s cliche but live life. share you’re excitement about what you created to others. build your community and realize that the stronger they are, the more they can help you. don’t worry about reaching out to everyone, sending every email, or expending yourself. water the soil around you and watch the roots grow. water those around you and watch your art, music, and perspectives grow with them. invite people into your life. The more diverse the people, the stronger your roots will grow”.
